Joseph was born 19 March 1751 in Pennsylvania. He was 24 when he served in the York County, Pennsylvania Militia as a Private during the Revolutionary War.
In the 1830 Census Joseph is in his 70s and Mary in her 60s. One teenaged male lives with them, probably son Joseph. They have no slaves or free colored persons.
The 1840 Census indicates that in his 80s Joseph is still farming. Wife Mary in her 70s died soon after the census was taken. No slaves or free colored persons live with them. Between the time of the census and Joseph's death in 1947 Mahoning Township has been moved from Mercer County to Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. Both Joseph and wife Mary are buried in Mahoning United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Joseph's will (written 12 May 1845) lists ten children, plus one daughter-in-law instead of her husband James, and one granddaughter, Cornelia Moore. Head and foot stones are to be provided for deceased wife Mary's grave. Will: pg 1, pg 2, pg 3, pg 4, pg 5, pg 6
